clairvoyant

Clairvoyant Beauty... I chose the name because "clairvoyant" is a combination of two french words: clair, meaning clear, and voyant meaning seeing. Clear seeing is a life work; Not a task to be accomplished in a day but a practice, a way of life. The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines clairvoyance as, "able to see beyond the range of ordinary perception". I like that. It takes a bit of magic to see beyond the range of the ordinary. To stretch the limit of one's perceptions. To believe that anything is possible.

This picture was taken when I was living in San Miguel De Allende, Mexico. I spent two years there with my beloved grandmother who had lived there since 1970. She passed away in December (2007), still elegant and beautiful at the age of 96! She fell in love with Mexico and maverick that she was, braved the many inconveniences that limited mobility from polio and being a widow caused her in making a move to a (then) tiny, remote and cut-off mountain town in a third-world country. But Magic is an accepted part of everyday life in Mexico - it is as natural as breathing - and she assimilated. I learned a lot about believing in miracles from the wonderful people of Mexico and am haunted by the mystery and beauty of that part of the world.

There really are no words to describe the magic realism of everyday life in San Miguel de Allende.  The daily walks to the Jardin, or the town square, where I would meet friends to catch up on the latest gossip (of which there was plenty); lunch with my grandmother to whom I would relay this gossip:  the latest newcomer, the latest romantic intrigue, the latest crime of passion!  Then I would settle her in for her siesta and go home and work at the computer if I didn't fall asleep myself!  Life is very relaxed with its own made up rules down in Mexico.  Don't be in too much of a hurry for anything or you'll drive yourself crazy.  Mañana can mean anything from tomorrow to six months from now!  There are parades and fireworks for the Saints Days (Archangel Michael aka San Miguel is the patron saint of the town) and the indigenous celebrations every other day; they have Bullfights in the bullring in town where people drink whiskey to make it easier to watch, I suppose.  People go to shamans and brujas to treat illness as easily as they run to doctors in El Norte.  Don't be surprised if you see a ghost or two.  Don't worry they're harmless.  You will have an increased number of coincidences - too many to be "coincidence"; also you will have a few experiences that you absolutely cannot explain - clairvoyant, prophetic, ESP.

I suggest you go there yourself! Or at least be an armchair traveler and check out this link to the ex-pat local newspaper, Atenciòn:  http://www.atencionsanmiguel.org/
And here's a link to a local Calendar of Events: http://www.portalsanmiguel.com/
It's the Dreamtime there - the Timeless Time.  I go back as often as possible...
